A Testimony of  NYIRAMISAGO Julienne one of the direct beneficiaries of REAO’s improved cooking stoves (ICS) Project

NYIRAMISAGO JULLIENNE, is 72 years old .she has 2 children and 9 Grandchildren. She is one  of the direct beneficiaries OF THIS PROJECT project of improved cooking stoves (ICS) in sector of Gatunda.

Before she used inefficient cooking stoves

Nyiramisago said before meeting REAO, she used to spend more time preparing meals using inefficient cooking stoves, but now she is spending less time on cooking, and use her more time in other income generating activities.

“Before the initiative arrived, I wasn’t able to light my stove in an easy or safe way because of many conditions that did not favour our lifestyle and our eating habits, sometimes our children would miss school just to be able to fetch firewood, our food was always covered by smoke, within a 10 year period I was always going to the hospital to treat my eyes because of a lot of smoke congestion. But I am so grateful to the NGO known as REAO, because when they arrived in the month of October 2020, they taught one of my grand- children in their initiative on how to operate and use ICS, and now I have spent 3 months using ICS in my household.” She said.

NYIRAMISAGO JULLIENNE said that she benefited more for using ICS, like she is now no longer have eyes problems that require medical attention, her children are now able to report to school on time because they are no longer need to go to fetch firewood everyday due to the fact that the FIREWOOD That Was used for one day is now being used for a whole week.

“Using ICS helped because my grandchildren are now performing well due to reporting to school on time and this makes me proud. I no longer smell of smoke cause now I have an advanced method of lighting (Cooking).” She said.

Nyiramisago is now thankful for the kindness REAO has shown her.

“I therefore thank REAO as an NGO in partnership with RGB/UNDP for the kindness and goodness they have shown us. “She said

So far improved cooking stoves (ICS) have had a big impact, such as decreasing indoor air pollution that may cause eyes infection, respiratory problems especially in women. These stoves also increased children’s attendance at Schools, because before they used much time in collecting firewood.
